Empire State Building

Soaring 1,454 feet above Midtown Manhattan, the Empire State Building is a global icon of astonishing history, engineering and construction. Called the "World's Most Famous Office Building," the Empire State Building is an Art Deco masterpiece and New York City's most symbolic tourist destination. One of the tallest skyscrapers on the planet and a National Historic Landmark, the Empire State Building offers spectacular views from its glass-enclosed pavilions and promenades. Zip up to the 86th floor and 102nd floor observatories on speedy elevators and take in panoramic views of the city and miles beyond. Experience the Dare to Dream Exhibit on the 80th floor, celebrating ESB's 80th anniversary and capturing the pioneering spirit of this remarkable NYC landmark. Ride up to the 86th floor, an open air terrace with 360 degree views of downtown, Midtown, Central Park, high-powered binoculars and an indoor viewing gallery. Or zip up to the 102nd floor Observatory, the highest public point in New York City, almost a quarter mile up in the sky, and take in views from the top of one of the most famous landmarks in the world.

FAQs

  • When should I visit the Empire State Building?

The Empire State Building Observatory is open from 8:00am to 2:00am daily. The least crowded visiting hours are at 8am or around 3pm. If you want to avoid large crowds, visit early in the morning or after 10pm. The holiday season is very busy, so you should consider buying an Express Pass, which lets you bypass the lines up and down. At sunset on New Year's Eve, the Empire State Building's tower lights dazzled the New York City skyline with vibrant lights and dynamic effects. The landmark's LED tower lights change color throughout the year to celebrate NYC and world holidays, events, countries, charity organizations and cultural milestones. The tower lights illuminate red and green during the Christmas season and orange and black for Halloween.
  • What is the best way to purchase tickets?

The easiest way to purchase tickets to the Empire State Building Observation Decks is online at http://www.esbnyc.com/buy_tickets.asp. Online ticket holders can skip the ticket line at the entrance of ESB and go right up to the observation decks. Express ticket buyers can jump to the front of the elevator lines. You can also buy tickets at the Observatory ticket office.
